Google Summer of Code

Google Summer of Code is an annual program in which Google sponsor students to write code for open source projects, for three months over the (Northern hemisphere) summer. The Foundation is proud to be a part of the program in 2011, and will be mentoring three students:

  • Hannah Aizenman will start development on the new ‘Common Climate Project’ work, mentored by Jason Smerdon and Kevin Anchukaitis at Columbia and Julien Emile-Geay at USC.
  • Filipe Fernandes will work on ccc-gistemp packaging, NumPy integration, and visualisation, mentored by David Jones.
  • Daniel Rothenberg will develop a Python library of homogenization algorithms, mentored by Nick Barnes.

Blog posts relating to Summer of Code activities, including guest posts by the students, will be tagged gsoc2011.

For each successful project, the student will receive a stipend of USD 5000, and the mentoring organisation will receive an honorarium of USD 500. The Foundation is very grateful to Google for its support of our work.
